Steps to Sell your car

Posted on Apr 24th 2014

You are a private seller or dealer. You are looking to sell your car. MotorsHIFI recommends the following for you:

• Family sedans, while unexciting to many, are in constant demand by people needing basic, inexpensive transportation.
• The sale of convertibles and sports cars is seasonal. Sunny weather brings out the buyers. Fall and winter months will be slow.
• Trucks and vans, used for work, are steady sellers and command competitive prices. Don't underestimate their value.
• Collector cars will take longer to sell and are often difficult to price. However, these cars can have unexpected value if you find the right buyer.

Your first step is to check on-line classified ads to see how much other sellers are asking for your type of car. Keep in mind that dealers will have different prices than private seller listings. For example, select the year and trim level of your car and see how many similar cars are currently on the market. Take note of their condition, mileage, geographic location and selling price so you can list your car at a price that will sell it quickly.

Once you have researched then price your car accordingly. Next advertise your car using all the marketing tools available in MotorsHiFi. Make sure that you are thorough enough in your listing to attract potential buyers. If you've done all the previous steps, you should receive a number of calls about the car. Now someone wants to see it in person. Bear in mind that when you sell your car, people will not only be evaluating the car, but also the person who owns it. Buyers will feel more comfortable if they know you took good care of the car if it is used and answer their questions openly. Potential buyers will want to test-drive the car. Ride along with them so you can answer questions. Some buyers will want to take the car to a mechanic to have it inspected. If you have a report from your mechanic, this might put their doubts to rest. But if they still want to take the car to their mechanic, this is a reasonable request. If its a new car however a test drive will do.

Once they are happy negotiate your best price and finalize on the deal. MotorsHIFI wishes you the best.
