A 3 step downsizing plan for your home

Posted on Apr 15th 2021

Moving to a new home is exciting, but it is sad to leave your old house with all your memories. If you move to a small home, a question can arise whether you would be able to carry all your things. Consider following practices for a successful home shifting.

Make a plan:

Visit your new residence and measure the size of your rooms and storage areas. This will be your guide for the quantity you can take with you. It is wiser to underestimate than overestimate.

As you are deciding what to keep and what to dispose of, do each room in turn. Moving is a difficult task, and you do not have to handle everything simultaneously—plan to do somewhat every day and leave additional time, so you're not rushed.

Settle on your furniture first. Going from enormous to little will give you a superior thought about how much space you have left to fill. You would prefer not to need to reshuffle everything if you can't take that shelf with you.

Sort your belongings:

Will you use it? It is not difficult to persuade yourself you may, in any case, wear that 10-year-old shirt with the labels still on sometime in the future. However, if you haven't utilized it in the previous year, it's probable you won't ever.

Additionally, dispose of multiples. Do you have various coffee pots or many sets of china? If you can utilize each at a time, you don't have to keep both.

As you sort, follow a strict yes/no strategy — there should be no "maybes." Make a "yes" pile and a "no" pile and force yourself to pick. If you're not persuaded the thing merits an indeed, it's a no. "Possibly" piles mean more work for you later.

Preserve your memories:

Digitize photos to save space and effectively share them with family. Photo collections occupy a great deal of space, and how frequently do you go through them? Get a digital outline and appreciate your photos' entirety in a turning slideshow or make a slideshow screensaver for your TV or PC.

Please take pictures of things that raise good memories; however, you no longer have space for them. You can think back on the memories without really keeping the items.
